Trip to South Africa
Tue 26th, 2016
Sue and Roger have just returned from a trip to South Africa during which time The Harrow ‘popped-up’ in the five star Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town and again at 96 Winery Road in Stellenbosch. The first dinner incorporated a blind challenge of South African vs New Zealand wines, the second leg of our Tri-Nations Challenge which excitingly resulted in a 3:3 draw! This battle will be re-run at The Harrow on Friday 15th July 2016 to see if we can elect a proper winner.
Roger also organised an MCC sparkling wine competition in Cape Town where 24 SA MCCs and English and Welsh Sparklings came up against each other in the style of a proper cricket game, which sadly for the Northern Hemisphere wasn’t quite the knock out result of the recent test match. We congratulate SA again on some simply superb MCCs, the overall winner being Cuvee Clive 2009 from Graham Beck which delighted SA’s team captain who just happened to be Pietre (Bubbles!) of Graham Beck Wines! Special guests Richard and Joy Morris of Ancre Hill Estates in Monmouth were team leaders for the English and Welsh entrants and proudly showed their 2009 Sparkling Seyval Blanc and their 2010 Rose. Other English entrants in the overall top 10 were Wiston Estates Rose 2011 and Coates and Seeley Blanc de Blancs.
